As Above 0.6 Update

So, this is really a long time coming. I've actually been working on this project for a while, but this is the first update in like 2 years -- according to itch.

What's changed / added:

  • So I redid the AI, it's still a bit buggy in that there are features still only half implemented so inactive. But the idea is that it is heading towards agents that go about their things more than just the basic wander around. Don't get me wrong, the enemies still do that and likely will do basic things, but I am hoping the other NPC characters that you can interact with will be a bit more dynamic in their behaviour in time.
  • Added an inventory system, along with other parts to it like things you can actually pickup and then make use of in the game world.
  • Speaking of things you can make use of, you can now use torches -- you can set NPCs on fire with them -- and also a gun. You need shells for it, it's single fire. But I like how they work. Perhaps not obvious from the start but you just hold down both space and the direction you want to fire. It takes a while to aim and then you shoot. There is an automatic aiming in place too, so all you need do is make sure that you line an enemy up more or less directly above, below or to either side of you. And then the auto targeting will kick in and send the shot to it's desired target. Could be better but I generally like how it works so far.
  • Added a quest system as well. Look, the current "quests" aren't great as I am just testing that the functionality works. But yeah, essentially there are 3 quests for you to do.
  • I expanded the notes system, so you can have a range of note page types to pick from and they have different display styles. I'm hoping to have short books you can read like in Morrowind, with certain pages having art and stuff rather than just plain text.
  • A host of little changes and additions that I can't even remember anymore because it has been so long. Honestly tho, I'd say all up I have worked on this project for like 5 months, it's just spread over close to 2 years -- apparently; feels like less time.

And I think I will leave the dev log at that other than to say that I like this project and intend to get it to at least a polished game demo state before deciding what to do with it. I'm hoping that games like Faith and World of Horror mean that there is a commercial market for this game. I'd really like to see it completed and published but we will see what happens.
