So my last dev log was roughly a year ago according to itch. The latest build is a major update and a big step closer to a final game demo that I will use to determine what to do next with the project -- to continue development on it or not. Hard to do when you're just relying on itch -- it does not promote the game at all, it has had poor views over all these years. Anyway, what has changed:
- Improvements to melee combat: easier for you to hit the enemies and the enemies have a chance of being stunned for a short while.
- Speaking of enemies: I am fairly happy as to how they are turning out, they are just about feature complete now and all the known bugs I had for them have been squashed.
- New end of demo boss fight: what was there was basic using the behaviours for enemies that I had already, now I have created a more fighting boss fight behaviour to make it more of a polished experience.
- Game persistence: now persists data across level transitions -- go inside a building and when you come out all the enemies are where they were left off, all the death decals remain, remembers what items have been picked up or where new ones have been dropped, etc.
- Framework for saving and loading the game: is in but untested. Once working all the crosses in the game that now heal you will instead allow you to save your game progress -- making the game more of a survival horror.
- UI keyboard support: you can now navigate all the UIs of the game with just the keyboard -- mouse has been dropped.
- UI controller support: you can now navigate all the UIs of the game with an (Xbox) controller -- when using the mouse any input prompts will show controller input prompts instead of keyboard.
- The tunnels: have had enemies placed inside -- likely will add more -- along with items to find and pickup along with story notes.
- New enemies, NPCs and items: have been created for the player to find, use and interact with.
- Numerous bug fixes to improve the play experience.
